Kathmandu Nepal. On the 19th of Bhadra, When the government decided to deactivate unregistered social media platforms in Nepal, the youth were outraged.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology decided to block 26 social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube, which triggered protests, as people believed their taxes largely ended up in corruption. In response, the Gen-Z generation spontaneously took to the streets of Kathmandu on Monday.
Their preparations were also visible outside Kathmandu.
When youths in Baneshwor, Kathmandu, tried to break through police barricades, the police fired tear gas and rubber bullets. As protesters attempted to enter the Parliament building, police opened fire indiscriminately.
So far, 17 people have died in Kathmandu due to police gunfire. The Home Ministry also reported two deaths in Itahari.
Police confirmed a total of 19 deaths in Itahari and Kathmandu combined.
A total of 422 people have been reported injured nationwide. Among them, at least 20 are in serious condition, with some found to be shot in the chest.
The injured who were shot by police at Baneshwor Chowk were taken to various hospitals for treatment. Hospitals reported that some died at the scene and some during treatment.
Currently, more than 170 injured are admitted at Baneshwor Civil Hospital.
Three people died in this hospital. Fifteen others were transferred from there to Bir and Trauma hospitals.
Six seriously injured patients are admitted at Bir Hospital.
At the Trauma Center, 49 injured are undergoing treatment. Eight people have died at this hospital, out of which six have been identified. The Ministry of Health has implemented disaster plans there.
At Everest Hospital in Baneshwor, 34 injured are receiving treatment. Three people died there. Seven trauma patients are also admitted at the same hospital. Similarly, Patan Hospital is treating four injured patients.
At Kathmandu Medical College, 32 injured are being treated. Two patients died while undergoing treatment there, and six require surgery, according to the Ministry of Health.
Similarly, 18 injured are being treated at Teaching Hospital, where one person has died. Three injured are receiving treatment at Norvic Hospital. According to Norvic, two patients have been discharged after routine treatment.
